Zehnthof Werlau
Rheingoldstr., 56329 Werlau
Cozy village square with fountain and picnic bench.
The "Zehnthof" was originally used to store the dues of farmers who were enfeoffed with land by the lord of the manor or were dependent on him for other reasons. The "tithe" comprised many different taxes. It referred not only to the tenth of the harvest, but also to the tenth of the sheep, pigs, goats or the whole of them, the tithe of honey or flax and many other things. The tithe building mainly housed the stables for the breeding bulls, boars and billy goats, which the landlords were obliged to keep according to ancient law.
