Dear Brohltalbahn friends,

Dear passengers,

If you are reading these pages, you are either planning a trip with one of the most charming means of transport in Germany, or you just want to learn about a unique train that has carried the melodious name "Vulkan-Expreß" since 1977.

Whatever the case may be - an incredibly varied and adventurous ride through one of the most picturesque side valleys of the Rhine lies ahead of you. Whether you are a hiker, bicycle tourist, nature lover, or railway enthusiast, your journey with the Brohltalbahn will provide relaxing hours and an opportunity to discover a diverse natural and cultural landscape.
The trains, pulled by steam and diesel locomotives, will take you at a speed of 20 km/h from Brohl am Rhein to Engeln in the Eifel. Interesting rock formations, initially consisting of slate and later of volcanic tuff and trass, accompany the ride along the Brohlbach until Burgbrohl.

However, before reaching the picturesque timber-framed station of Burgbrohl, the valley of Brohl must be crossed on a 120-meter-long viaduct at a height of 12 meters near Bad Tönnistein. Immediately after, the narrow-gauge track, which has the rarely seen gauge of one meter, winds through the only tunnel of the approximately 18-kilometer-long railway line. It is a fascinating experience when a fully occupied passenger train, pulled by a steam locomotive, puffs through the almost 100-meter-long tunnel. (Not too much should be revealed about the landscape here - you should discover it for yourself).
Have you always dreamed of peeking over the shoulders of the "black men" on a steam locomotive? At the Brohltalbahn, we are happy to show and explain this old and proven technology to you. We want to not only bring our passengers closer to the beautiful Eifel landscape but also illustrate the preserved and lively history of technology. Of course, all our trained staff are happy to answer your questions regarding the history of the narrow-gauge railway. Throughout the year, our largely historical workshop is open for visits on Saturdays starting from 10:00 AM.
When was the last time you traveled in "economy class"? With us, it is still possible to present the surprisingly aged carriage fittings to wide-eyed children that were common just not long ago. In good weather, you can enjoy another pleasure: a ride in our open carriage. Your acquaintances and friends will be amazed when you tell them that you rode in a railway convertible!

These and many other experiences await you on a ride with the Vulkan-Expreß on the Brohltalbahn. In almost all trains, our service team will supply you with drinks. At the kiosk in Brohl BE station, in addition to refreshments and various souvenirs (stickers, postcards, etc.), you will also find our brochure "100 Years of Brohltalbahn," which entertainingly brings you the history of the only narrow-gauge steam railway in Rhineland-Palatinate with numerous, partially colored images. The proceeds from this will be used to maintain the vehicles of the Brohltalbahn.
In addition to the scheduled (currently only diesel-powered passenger trains), special trains and events are also conducted throughout the year upon request.
We hope we have sparked your interest and enthusiasm to board and ride with us.

We look forward to your visit
