Schloss Vollrads
Schloss Vollrads 1, 65375 Oestrich-Winkel
Schloss Vollrads combines history, culture and cuisine in one of Rheingau’s most beautiful palatial buildings. It sits atop a 160-metre hill. At its centre is the residential tower built in the middle of a pond before 1330, which Goethe described as ‘magnificent’ in 1814. The history of wine-making at Schloss Vollrads dates back to 1211, when the Greiffenclau family first sold wine. Georg Philipp von Greiffenclau built the manor house and significantly expanded his vineyards from 1648. Today, the estate cultivates 100 % Riesling on 63 hectares according to ecological guidelines, the produce of which can be sampled in the wine cellar. The castle has been carefully restored in recent years. Regional and international cuisine is served in its Gutsrestaurant, while the manor house is a popular event and wedding venue. The castle also offers gourmet wine tastings, wine & dine evenings, readings and highlights of the Rhein-
gau Music Festival. The full-moon hike and Riesling walk take you along a 1.5 km-long nature trail or through the vineyards around Schloss Vollrads, respectively.
