As part of the urban redevelopment, which also included a redesign of the Rhenser marketplace, the Ox Fountain was inaugurated in May 2003. The partially movable sculpture, which is especially popular with children, depicts a farmer driving an ox to the cattle trough. The fountain is meant to remind of the cattle trough that had long been located at this spot and had served as a place of communication for the citizens of Rhenser.
