Two airmen's crosses near the salt head tower commemorate airplane accidents that occurred between 1964 and 1976.
In April 1964, a jet fighter crashed from the nearby Pferdsfeld airfield. The pilot was killed during his training flight. Near the crash site, his friends erected a wooden memorial cross. In 1983, a private sports plane launched in Leutkirch in the Allgäu region crashed on the southern slope of the Salzkopf mountain. The rescue helicopter found the wreckage a day later; the three occupants did not survive the impact. Relatives and friends erected a "Marterl" at the site of the accident and erected a memorial stone. The 200 kilogram stone comes from the "Grünten", the local mountain of the Allgäu glider pilots.
